Unibet is one of the world’s largest online bookmakers and part of the Kindred Group, who also operate a number of other successful brands, including Maria Casino, Stan James, 32Red, iGame, and various other sites.
Unibet is arguably the most successful of the Kindred group’s range, with offices all over the world including: Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, France, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Italy, Malta, Sweden, and of course the United Kingdom.
An annual revenue of over £340 Million gives you some idea of the company’s status, and as you’d expect from a company of Unibet’s size, the customer support, website functionality, and overall betting experience simply can’t be matched.
In this post, we’re going to look at some of the most important features of the site so that you can make an informed decision as to whether or not it is worth your time.
Sports Betting at Unibet
Unibet offer a healthy number of markets for you to enjoy, although perhaps what they’re most famous for is Horse Racing.
Unibet is an ideal choice for those who like to bet on the horses. Whether you’re looking for classic English races such as Aintree, Cheltenham and Goodwood; or you fancy something a bit different like Indian horse racing, there is always a race for you.
Plus, since Unibet offer best odds guaranteed on all UK and Irish races, you can guarantee yourself the best possible odds regardless of what they were at the time you placed your bet.
Other popular markets include the usual suspects like Football and Golf, but you can also find a plethora of less popular sports, including: Water Polo, Handball, WWE, MotoGP, Cricket, and even Chess. Chess seems to be cropping up a lot more these days, maybe we are missing something…?
As well as the above, Unibet also offer a range of unusual markets, and at the time of writing there are 9 novelty bets in the ‘Novelty’ area. There was one, though, that caught our attention right away:
(drum roll please…)
Yep – you can now wager your hard-earned cash on who will catch the biggest Pike on some obscure Swedish television program. Is there anything more exciting than cheering on a Swedish fisherman as he reels in his line to reveal what you hope will be a pike? A really really big pike.
Nail biting stuff, right? We’ll leave it to you to decide whether we are being serious or not, but nonetheless it’s an interesting market.
Another event in the novelty section is the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize 2017, which is actually quite a good idea that we’ve not seen advertised elsewhere.
This is all correct at the time of writing, although when you visit the site you may find things have changed significantly. The important thing is, though, that Unibet clearly take a vested interest in keeping their customers entertained and don’t take themselves too seriously. Two thumbs up from us.
How Good are the Odds?
Aside from offering a huge range of markets, Unibet also offer some of the best odds that can be found industry wide, so it’s not hard to see why they’ve become so popular with players around the UK.
You’ll always enjoy the best odds with best odds guaranteed; and daily specials, ACCA boosters and enhanced odds are just some of the extra perks to be enjoyed at the bookie. All of these promotions can be found under the promotions tab.
Hint: Unibet become very active around big competitions like The Champions League, Wimbledon, Ascot, Goodwood, etc; and they like to provide customers with a range of offers and enhanced bets at these times, so it’s well worth keeping an eye out during these competitions even if you’re not a regular player.
In Play Betting
Unibet offer one of the biggest selection of in-play markets we’ve ever seen, and a 2016 count saw a stonking 165,000 markets offered for in-play betting. This is further complimented by a massive 40,000 live streamed events, all available in the ‘Unibet TV’ section. More on that later.
Unlike other bookies, who offer a great sportsbook but a rather underwhelming in-play bet area, Unibet offer both. You’ll find a ton of great markets, from Football, Golf, Netball, Snooker, and more – all easily accessible through the ‘In-play’ tab found on the main navigation menu.
As one of the biggest betting sites on the planet, Unibet are expected to meet certain standards; even the smallest mishap could cost them both financially and in reputation. This doesn’t seem to daunt them as they are one of the most efficiently run bookies on the planet, and their website is equally as impressive as the running of the company.
From the moment that you land on the homepage you can navigate around the site with ease thanks to the handy navigation menus. The top navigation bar is where you select which area of the site you want to use (Casino, Bingo, Sports, Blog etc), and on the left-hand side you will see a list of all the relevant markets.
As you would expect, the site is also fully optimised for mobile use, with apps available for iOS and Android customers as an alternative.
One of the things we like the most about the Unibet site, is the fact that placing bets is incredibly simple. Everything from adding selections to your bet slip to selecting multiples and choosing E/W is easy and intuitive, and if you do ever get stuck with anything you’ll be able to contact the live support who are available 24/7 to answer any questions you may have.
While there’s a little bit too much happening on certain pages, in general, Unibet have developed their website perfectly, and whether it’s in-play, live streaming, or just good old horse racing that you fancy; you’ll enjoy a fast, reliable betting experience.
Unibet were one of the first bookies to really go all out when it came to mobile betting, and indeed, they were one of the first to offer downloadable apps to players on iOS and Android devices.
In order to download the mobile app from an iOS device, you simply need to search ‘Unibet’ from the Apple Play Store, while Android players need to head to the Unibet website where they will find a direct download link.
If you don’t own an Android or iOS device, you’ll need to use the mobile website to place your bets, and this can be accessed through your mobile’s internet browser.
One thing we will say, is that the mobile site is quite a lot slower than the downloadable apps. Because of this, we’d highly recommend that players who are able to do so always use the app where possible.
Having said that, the main website is well developed for mobile play, it’s just that it takes a little longer.
Responsible Gambling Software
Unibet use what’s known as PS-EDS (Player Safety Early Detection System) to help identify potential problem gamblers, so that they can reach out to the punter and offer advice and support if required.
It sounds intrusive – and there’s no denying that it’s a very personal matter – but the software is designed to respond to specific signs that indicate problem gambling behaviour. If Unibet have a genuine concern for the well-being of a player, they can (and have been known to) shut down the player’s account on the spot to prevent them from losing more money than they can afford.
However you feel about it, it shows they are doing their bit.
Unibet offer well above average odds on most of their markets, and this can be verified by going to any of the odds comparison tools, freely available online. Obviously, this won’t always be the case but more often than not they offer winning odds.
Enhanced prices and specials are also a regular sight, and you’ll see new promos and offers to take advantage of every day.
OK, so it’s not a feature that benefits you directly, but it’s nice to know that the bookie you’re playing at is well thought of and looking after its customers.
Unibet’s dedication to creating a safe, fair, and enjoyable sports betting website has led to them receiving a number of acclaimed awards. This includes being crowned the 2016 EGR Sports Betting Operator of the Year, and winning the iGB Poker Affiliate Programme award – both of which further cement Unibet as a reputable, honest, and highly recommended bookie.
Payments & Limits
Unibet are one of the few bookies to implement a maximum bet policy. If you’re sat there thinking ‘don’t most?’ – well, technically no. You see, every bookie in the world is allowed to cap their payouts so that their liability can be limited; essentially stopping the company going bust from a single big win. The big difference is that most bookies follow this max payout as opposed to implementing a maximum bet.
For the companies who do cap their bets – like Unibet – there’s a little bit more transparency as they’re basically being more forthcoming about how much you can win, and stopping you betting more.
The actual amount that Unibet implement varies from market to market, but they’re generally more than most players would ever dream of betting anyway, so it very rarely proves to be an issue. The company have a maximum payout of £500,000 per customer per day across most markets, although this can drop £100,000 on smaller markets that attract less bet activity.
In regards to the payment methods Unibet allow you to use there is a plethora of choice, and some of the more popular options include Visa Debit/Credit and most Mastercard’s, along with many EWallets and voucher schemes.
Withdrawal requests are processed quite speedily – usually in around 12 hours – but this can increase during busy periods and at weekends.
